Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha has said that in a cultural city like Kathmandu, structures should not be demolished in the name of development. On Sunday, Minister Shrestha said that the structure should not be demolished in the name of development, while addressing the launch of the reconstruction work of Visveshwar Mahadev Temple and the book release ceremony called Hanuman Dhoka.
He said that Kathmandu Valley is very important from a tourist point of view and that houses should not be demolished to widen the road.
He said that Kathmandu should be made a tourist city, saying that heritage will be important only if the physical structures of the past can be preserved. Minister Shrestha promised that the Ministry has announced the Tourism Decade to make the tourism sector sustainable and now the Ministry will gradually work on the country’s tourism. He emphasized that the tourism sector should be organized more by saying that tourism will generate employment and income in the country.
He said, “There are many tourist destinations in the three districts of Kathmandu Valley, so we have to change the modality of Kathmandu.” The old houses of the city should be kept as they are. In the name of widening a narrow road, you should not destroy the house or destroy it. The structure of this city as it was yesterday; It has its condition, its condition should be protected and maintained.’

Minister Shrestha said that today’s society is forgetting the old culture in the name of modernity. He also said that the ministry is planning to establish structures in the old style. He said that along with the construction of tourist structures, the Ministry is also planning how to make Kathmandu Valley itself a tourist area. He said that the tourists could not be brought in because they could not proceed with the plan to create a tourist environment in the tourist area.
Minister Shrestha also said that a 2.2 km heritage trail will be constructed from Hanuman Dhoka to Swayambhu and this heritage trail is going to be built for the purpose of allowing tourists to see it peacefully. He mentioned that a trail will be operated on this heritage route and it will reflect the cultural heritage, and one can see rituals from birth to death.
