Sad News: More than 120 Football fans died last Night after a massive riot broke out in a match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya supporters in Indonesian football league. The league is suspended for one week following the incident.

At least 127 football fans are reported to have died in Indonesia after a riot broke out following Arema FC’s league clash against Persebaya Surabaya.

Multiple local media outlets have reported the figure – which has risen throughout the evening – of fans who died on the pitch at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang after a pitch invasion at the end of the match. Many supporters were rushed to the local Kanjuruhan Hospital and Wava Husada Hospital.

Akhmad Hadian Lukita, the president of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), has said: “We are concerned and deeply regret this incident. We share our condolences and hopefully, this will be a valuable lesson for all of us.”

Dozens killed in stampede at Indonesia football match, Indonesian police say at least 129 people have been killed and dozens injured after a crowd stampede during a riot at a football match in the province of East Java.

In a statement on Sunday, police said supporters of Arema FC stormed the pitch at a stadium in the eastern city of Malang after their team lost 3-2 to Persebaya Surabaya on Saturday night.

Police said they tried to persuade fans to return to the stands and fired tear gas to control “riots” after two officers were killed. Hundreds of fans then ran to an exit gate in an effort to avoid the tear gas. Some suffocated in the chaos and many were trampled to death.

Several fights between supporters of the two rival soccer teams were reported inside the Kanjuruhan Stadium in East Java province’s Malang city after the Indonesian Premier League game ended with Persebaya Surabaya beating Arema Malang 3-2.

The brawls that broke out just after the game ended late night Saturday prompted riot police to fire tear gas, which caused panic among supporters, said East Java Police Chief Nico Afinta.
